Wear a Poppy

Wear a poppy on this day,
On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day.
To think about those who died,
And the fortunate ones who survived.
Wear a poppy on this day,
Have two minutes silence stand and pray.
We see their shadows standing behind,
We don’t forget and we don’t hide.
Wear a poppy on this day,
We hope our memories stay.
And to this day don’t fade away,
On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day.
We pray the lord our soul to save!

The Hunter's Footsteps

It was icy cold, and I was wearing no shoes.  Each footstep fading behind me, I had no idea where I was going or if I would get back.  The whistling of the wind entwined with the howl of wolves had always soothed me. As I hiked up the hill barefoot, alone and peaceful, I knew this was where I wanted to be, where I wanted to live. But today, today there were no wolf howls, and the whistle was more like a scream, and I knew he was coming. I knew I wasn’t safe….I kept going. That was the biggest mistake I ever made. I died that day because the wolves had followed me. He killed us all. Nobody ever cared…. My peaceful place, was my death place. Felicity Year 8

Our last competition of the year! The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is the biggest award for writers aged 11-17.  It welcomes poems on any theme and any length. It is completely FREE to enter for anyone aged 11-17 in the WORLD . Since it began, the Award has kick-started the career of some of today’s most exciting new voices.
